BLOG: From Doubt to Direction: Building Real Confidence as a Practice Owner

Over the past few months, we’ve walked through two of the three C's of private practice growth; Clarity (knowing where you’re going) and Connection (building relationships that support and sustain your practice). This month, we focus on the final pillar, Confidence. Confidence determines whether everything you’ve built actually moves forward.

I don't mean surface-level confidence. I mean grounded, decision-making, leadership-level confidence. You can be clear on your vision and deeply connected to your clients and community, but if you don't trust yourself to act - you will stay stuck.

To your real confidence,

Renee

Redefining Confidence

Many practice owners think confidence means having zero doubt, feeling 100% ready, and knowing exactly what to do at all times. That version of confidence doesn't exist. Real confidence looks like:

  • Making decisions while feeling uncertain
  • Taking action before you feel ready
  • Trusting yourself to figure things out
  • Pivoting when something doesn't go as planned

Confidence isn't something you wait for, it is a skill you build.

Where Private Practice Owners Lose Confidence

Do any of these situations sound familiar?

1. You constantly question your decisions

You make a choice… then immediately wonder if it was wrong.

2. You look outside yourself for validation

Google, Facebook groups, colleagues—you’re gathering opinions instead of building self-trust.

3. You undercharge or over-deliver

Not because you don’t know better—but because confidence hasn’t caught up to your value.

4. You are waiting to feel “ready”

Before hiring. Before growing. Before pivoting.

Indecision is a confidence problem - not a strategy problem.

The Moments That Actually Build Confidence

Saying your full rate…and not justifying it

Confidence grows when you know your worth.

Not over-accommodating every client request

Confidence grows when you honor your boundaries.

Making a business decision without polling five people first

Confidence grows when you trust your own judgment and act like a CEO.

Leadership requires making decisions, holding boundaries, standing behind your policies, and navigating challenges.

You don't just need confidence to grow your practice; you need confidence to lead it.

Confidence is Built Through Evidence

You don’t build confidence by thinking about it, you do it by creating proof. Every time you have a hard conversation, set a boundary, or raise your rates, you are collecting evidence that you can act with confidence.

This is how practices grow - from repeated, aligned action.

How to Start Building Confidence

1. Give yourself less time to overthink and make faster decisions.

2. Stop over-consuming information and trust yourself to execute a decision.

3. Keep a running list of decisions you've made and challenges you've handled.

4. Do one thing daily that feels slightly uncomfortable.

Clarity gave you direction, connection gave you support, confidence turns both into growth. At the end of the day, your practice will only grow to the level that you're willing to lead it.
