BLOG: Connection as a Growth Strategy

In this month's blog, we introduced connection as the second element in building a sustainable, aligned practice (alongside clarity and confidence). In this month's newsletter, we will explore what connection really looks like in day-to-day practice ownership—and why so many practice owners feel disconnected even when their practice looks “successful” on paper.

Connection to Your Clients

When practices struggle with retention, buy-in, or consistency, it’s rarely about the quality of care. More often, it’s about connection to their clients.

Connection shows up in how:

  • clearly clients understand your value
  • safe they feel asking questions
  • aligned your services feel with what they actually need

When you’re connected to your clients, your messaging becomes clearer, your boundaries feel more natural, and referrals happen more organically. Connection is about being intentional and present in how you communicate and serve.

Connection to Your Team

Growth can quietly erode connection with your team if you’re not careful. It’s easy to get pulled into operations, decisions, and problem-solving—while assuming your team “knows” your vision and values. But connection with your team requires regular touchpoints, transparency, and shared understanding.

Strong team connection leads to:

  • better follow-through
  • fewer misunderstandings
  • more ownership, autonomy, and confidence

When your team feels connected, they don’t just work for the practice—they work with it.

Connection to Yourself

This is the one most practice owners neglect. Private practice ownership is not unlike parenting. Connection to ourselves gets lost while caring for our "baby."

Somewhere along the way, many private practitioners lose connection to:

  • why they started
  • what they actually want their role to look like
  • what feels sustainable for them
  • their own self care

Disconnection from yourself often shows up as burnout, resentment, or feeling stuck—even when things are “going well.” Reconnecting might mean reassessing your schedule, redefining success, or giving yourself permission to want something different than you did a year ago.

Connection to yourself is not indulgent—it’s essential leadership work and vital to your practice's growth.

Why Connection Comes Before Confidence

Confidence doesn’t come from pushing harder. It comes from alignment—and alignment comes from connection.

When you’re connected to your clients, your team, and yourself, your boundaries get clearer and your decisions get easier. Your practice's growth feels intentional instead of reactive.

In the next piece of this series, we’ll talk about confidence—and how it naturally follows when clarity and connection are in place.
